Autumn cultural events on the Costa Blanca |
An open-air art museum featuring urban art installations |

For anyone who thinks the Costa Blanca slows down after summer, Calp has a lively answer: a programme of around 30 autumn cultural events spanning art, music, theatre and local heritage.
Its most ambitious feature is the planned Museu d’Art Urbà, an open-air art museum that will bring 21 permanent urban art installations into the historic centre.
Rather than asking visitors to step inside a gallery, the project aims to make art part of an ordinary walk through town.
That shift could give Calp’s older streets a fresh cultural identity while offering residents another reason to linger beyond the beach season.
Visual arts also take centre stage in the 11th Speed Painting Competition, while a Roman-era re-enactment at Baños de la Reina will connect the programme with Calp’s deeper past.
Music brings a wide-ranging mix, from Camerata Odesa performing Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons to a concert by the Valencian Community Chamber Orchestra.
Guitar performances include Hugo Moltó’s Sonatinas and Serenade, a collaboration featuring local musician Darío González and cellist Alfons Rochera.
The wider bill also features Francisco and Tamara, Solera Artística, the Gala Star ballet company and flamenco violinist Paco Montalvo.
Free live broadcasts of ballet and opera from London’s Covent Garden add another way to enjoy major performances without leaving Calp.
Yet the strongest sense of place may come from Calp’s own performers, including the Unión Musical Calp-Ifach, the Ifach Choir and the Casa de Andalucía’s rociero choir.
The ClaudeFa Association, Xirimiters del Carellot, Xaranga la Xarlotà and Rondalla de Calp are also part of the programme.
Theatre offers everything from La Cubana’s La cuisine de ma cousine to the improvisation of Corta el cable rojo and the immersive suspense of La mujer de negro.
For local audiences, that variety matters: these autumn cultural events promise familiar faces alongside performances that might tempt someone to try something new.
And with the open-air art museum at its heart, Calp’s cultural season looks set to leave an impression long after the performances end. |
